A Lidl bit bigger
THE old NatWest bank building in Hanham High Street is set to be demolished to allow the neighbouring Lidl supermarket to expand.
The owners haven’t yet decided when work will be carried out, but planning permission has already been granted by South Gloucestershire council.
The expanded supermarket will include a larger entrance area, more warehouse storage and freezer storage space, and a bakery. Extensions will be built in front of and behind the existing shop.
The NatWest branch has been closed for three years and there had been speculation that the building would be turned into flats.
A Lidl spokesperson said decisions are yet to be made on when the work will take place and whether the current store will close temporarily to allow for the building work.
She said: “We are currently exploring plans for the extension and will let the local community know of any updates as and when they become available.”
The Hanham Lidl branch is only a mile from the Lidl in Aldermoor Way, Longwell Green.
