DRIVERS of waste lorries have been stopped on the A4174 Avon Ring Road and shown how to better secure their loads.

The campaign by Avon and Somerset Police and South Gloucestershire Council has been hailed as a success. Enviro-crime officers stopped 65 vehicles, from flatbed trucks to bulk waste freight containers, for potential offences during the week-long operation. Most drivers were given verbal advice on securing waste; six operators will be given further advice and one caseis being investigated. Councillor Heather Goddard, pictured, chair of the Environment and Community Services Committee, said: “We also have to close off parts of this busy road at certain times of the year in order to carry out the clean-up operation safely, which can lead to major disruption for motorists so I am pleased to see our warnings are being heeded.”
