HANHAM teenager Anna Perkins has represented England in the sport of archery against rival home nations Scotland and Wales.

Anna, a student at John Cabot Academy, was over the moon when she was told in April that she had been selected for the England team for the Home Nations match in July.

After months of tireless practice, the team of four boys and four girls competed at Lilleshall National Sports Centre in Shropshire.

Thankfully their hard work paid off, with England emerging victorious after seeing off Scotland and Wales.

Anna has been shooting for five years and is a member of Cleve Archers, who shoot near Winterbourne.

The 15-year-old, who has also represented Gloucestershire for three years at various inter-county matches, holds many county and regional records and last year broke two national records.

Last August Anna was chosen to be one of 56 archers aged between 10 and 20 from across the UK to join national governing body Archery GB’s academy programme for talented athletes.

Dad Andy Perkins said: “Anna puts in around 20 hours of training a week. The balance of what she does varies throughout the year, but will include strength and conditioning exercises, bespoke exercises to strengthen core muscles and shoulder muscles, cardiovascular training, practising her shot routine using therabands and, of course, regular shooting.

"Anna has put in a tremendous amount of work over the past three years to get where she is and we are immensely proud to have seen that work pay off with her selection for the England team.”
