JOHN Cabot Academy in Kingswood, the founding school in the Cabot Learning Federation, has a new person at the helm following the sudden departure of the principal Simon White.

Mr White, who had been at the secondary school for 14 months, resigned and has been replaced by Sally Apps, an executive principal at the federation and formerly principal of the CLF's successful Bristol Metropolitan Academy.

CLF's executive director of education Dr Dan Nicholls, in a letter to parents, said: "Sally has a strong record of school improvement and, having worked closely with colleagues at JCA since September, has a good knowledge of our local context."

Dr Nicholls thanked Mr White for his hard work and commitment to the academy.

JCA is rated Requires Improvement but was said in July to be making progress.
