LONGWELL Green's Claudia Fragapane and her dance partner AJ Pritchard are wowing the millions of  viewers of  the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing.

After the first two weeks, the pair – who are the youngest couple in the competition – were in seventh place on the leader board with 12 points and a combined score of 56.

Olympic gymnast Claudia, 18, and AJ launched their campaign with a cha cha cha to What Makes You Beautiful by One Direction.

The high-energy performance included some of Claudia's trademark moves. which attracted a mixed response from the judges but a hugely enthusiastice response from the audience, which included her parents. Claudia, who at 4ft 7ins is nicknamed the Pocket Rocket, also won widespread admiration for doing gymnastics in high heels.

 

In Week 2, Claudia and AJ danced the waltz to You Light Up My Life by Whitney Houston. Head judge Len Goodman said the outloook for the pair was sunny, dancer Darcey Bussell praised the fluidity of their act and Bruno Tonioni said it was reminiscent of West Side Story.

That was the episode that saw the first elimination from the contest - DJ and television Melvin Odoom and his partner Janette Manrara.

Viewers also saw Claudia return to Hawks gym in Bristol, where she trains and teaches. She and AJ gave some of the young gymnasts a preview of their Strictly routine.

On Saturday, after the Voice went to print, the couple were due to perform a Charleston to You Give a Little Love by Paul Williams from Bugsy Malone as part of the show's popular  Movie Week.
