RESIDENTS in Cadbury Heath have expressed concerns over the sudden closure of the popular community cafe at the Batch.

Esther's, which had been open seven days a week shut without warning last month, meaning individuals and groups had to change their plans.

Members of the Knit and Natter group at Cadbury Heath library said they were upset at the loss of the cafe.

"It was a social hub. We were shocked that it closed," they told the Voice.

The Batch is run by Banjo Island Community and Sports Association.

It is understood that the cafe's contract had been due to end on November 28, from when the association intended to employ its own staff to take over the day-to-day running of the kitchen.
