FLOODING in Cherry Gardens Road in Bitton should soon be a thing of the past.

FLOODING in Cherry Gardens Road in Bitton should soon be a thing of the past.

The Government has agreed to pay to upgrade the drainage system before March next year so the A4175 road can cope better with heavy rainfall.

It is one of nine roads in South Gloucestershire and one in Bristol that have been awarded a total of £3.4 million from the Challenge Fund to install more modern drainage.

The idea is that it will save money eventually by reducing the need to repair roads that flood regularly.

The work will also include new technology that will help the council to monitor rainfall and water levels.

Other roads where work will be carried out  include Abson Road, Pucklechurch and the A420 High Street in Wick and  the A 431 at Swineford.
