BUDDING artists are being encouraged to think about joining an art club where they can hone their skills.

Hanham Art Club is looking for new members to create their own original artwork.

The small friendly group meets every Thursday evening to learn new skills and support each other with advice and encouragement and all are welcome, from beginners to experienced artists.

Anyone who is interested will be able to have a free 'try out' session with all materials supplied. They will also have a chance to chat to members who will be available to demonstrate watercolour, acrylic, pastel and oil painting techniques.

Sandra Burnham, club secretary, said: "Art can be a very rewarding interest whatever your ability, allowing you to leave your worries behind and just enjoy being creative".

Hanham Art Club was originally set up in 1970, with members painting in all media at all levels.

Although the club does not have an official tutor, its experienced members are more than willing to pass on their knowledge and skills.

Members also have occasional access to demonstrations by guest artists and live model/still life sessions.

Each June the club holds its popular week-long annual exhibition and sale of work, giving members the opportunity to exhibit and sell their work if they wish.

There is also a website where members can showcase their work and find helpful tips as well as regular newsletters and competitions.

The group meets Thursday evenings during term time from 7-9pm in the Avon Room (upstairs), at Hanham Community Centre, High Street, Bristol BS15 3EJ.

Children under the age of 16 are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult.

If you are interested, please contact Sandra on 07941 835285 for more information, check the website www.hanhamartclub.co.uk or just turn up at any Thursday evening class.
