Hit and run appeal

POLICE are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage to an incident where a store security guard was run over as he attempted to stop a suspected shoplifter.
It happened on Church Road in St George on Thursday December 5 at around 9.30pm.
A black Audi drove over a man in his 20s who had fallen in the road before leaving the scene. The victim, a security guard working for the Co-op, had been attempting to detain a suspected shoplifter when he fell. He received significant injuries including breaks to his ribs and arm and needed hospital treatment.
The car has since been recovered and a 43-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the incident.
Church Road was closed for more than 12 hours after the incident as investigators examined the scene of the incident.
Traffic, including bus services which use the A420 to link the city centre with Kingswood and Hanham, was diverted.
Detective Inspector James Wasiak said: “This incident could’ve been much worse and the victim is extremely lucky he escaped with the injuries he did.
“As part of our inquiry specialist crime scene investigators have examined the scene and I’d like to thank the public for their patience while we closed the road to do this.
“Officers also continue to review CCTV footage from the area and we will soon be questioning the arrested woman about the incident.”
He added: “We’re also keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident who hasn’t yet spoken to us as well as any motorists who may have dashcam of the Church Road area around the time.”
