POLICE closed down an illegal rave after they were called to a disused pub in Kingswood.

Six people were arrested and sound equipment seized following the unlicensed music event at the former Chequers pub in Lodge Road.

More than 100 people were found to be trespassing when police entered the premises at around 10.30pm on Saturday November 19.

Police say a 'significant' number of officers were used to stop further people entering and to ensure the event was closed down safely.

Superintendent Catherine Johnstone said: “Unlicensed music events pose a serious risk to public safety and our primary focus was to use all the necessary policing resources to bring the event to a safe conclusion.

“Events can pose a real and substantial risk to safety when they’re not properly managed or licensed and cause distress to residents living nearby through the resulting noise and disruption.

“We’re now carrying out an investigation to ensure all criminal offences are pursued.

“We’ll also be liaising with the landowner to ensure this premises is properly secured to prevent any re-occurrence.

“I’d like to thank the local community for alerting us to the incident and for their patience and support while we dealt with it.”
