KEYNSHAM WALKING FOOTBALL
Keynsham Walking Football held three successful walking football tournaments in July and August at the AJN Stadium in Keynsham.
The three invitation events sanctioned by Somerset FA, for Over 60s, Over 65s and Over 70s attracted teams from across the region: Bracknell, Bournemouth, Cirencester, Clevedon, Crewkerne, Highworth, Odd Down, Salisbury, and Yeovil.
The Over 60s competition attracted eight teams who played in groups of four before a semi-final and final. Highworth Town beat the home side on penalties in the final. The Plate Final (for teams finishing 3rd and 4th in their groups) was won by Clevedon Town.
The Over 65s event was originally scheduled for July but was postponed because of extremely hot weather. It was eventually played with six teams in a single-league format in August when Keynsham A were victorious with five straight wins. Highworth Town came second, pipping Keynsham B on goal difference.
The Over 70s tournament consisted of eight teams in groups of four again. Once again Keynsham A were victorious after a nil-nil draw with Second Chance (from Odd Down) in the final and a penalty shoot-out. Highworth Town won the Plate Trophy by gaining a 3-0 win over Keynsham B.
In all 22 teams took part on three separate days with around 200 players playing the beautiful game, but a little slower. The competitions were played in a good spirit and new friends were made and old acquaintances renewed.
