A MAN has been jailed after a series of handbag snatches in Kingswood last year.

Mitchell Rogers, 27, of Britton Gardens, Speedwell, was jailed for 48 months after he admitted four counts of robbery.

The offences happened on Thursday November 10 and Friday November 11 and involved women aged between 30 and 73.

In each case a woman was walking along the road when Rogers walked or cycled up to them and grabbed their bag.

Rogers was arrested on the afternoon of Friday November 11, when police also recovered a handbag dumped in Bright Street. The woman’s purse, cash and phone were missing.

Police say people can deter thieves by:

• Walking facing oncoming traffic

Trying to stay near a group of people or heading to a busy place such as a shop or garage

Trying to stay aware of your surroundings – avoid wearing headphones or chatting on your mobile

Trying not to keep all your valuables in your bag – it’s sensible to keep your keys, phone and wallet or purse in an inside pocket instead
