Netball academy aims for excellence
STUDENTS at the Cabot Learning Federation (CLF) have the chance to develop their sporting skills with the launch in September of its junior development academy for netball.
To mark the launch, a tournament was staged between Year 7 and Year 8 students from King’s Oak, Hanham Woods and John Cabot academies. Bristol Brunel, Bristol Metropolitan and City Academy will have their own contest.
Each academy brought ten of their best players across the year groups who will be hoping to be selected for the academy development squad of 32, once they have completed a six-week trial. The squad will be chosen and coached by Laura Osborne who is an ex-England indoor player, and level two coach.
Also taking part were the Post 16 CLF netball team who not only helped organise the tournament but coached and officiated the matches, providing strong aspirations for the students.
Kath Cooper, principal of Post 16 and the driving force behind the team, said: "I have a passion for sport and particularly netball. I believe with the raft of talent we have across our academies, the development academy team could compete with the best of players in the future."
