CRICKETER George Hankins has cut the ribbon on a new community and youth centre in Oldland Common.

George, who plays for Gloucestershire CCC and lives in nearby Bitton, was among the guests at the grand opening ceremony for the building, which is located at the back of Redfield Edge Primary School in the High Street.

The project has been funded by Bitton Parish Council and has taken five years to complete.

The new facilities boast a main hall to accommodate up to 60 people, a smaller room which holds 20 people, kitchen and toilet facilities.

The building is used by New Tracks Youth Club twice a week and by a friendship and exercise group on Wednesday mornings. There are also various fitness classes, including Zumba and circuit training.
