LABOUR has selected its candidate to fight for Kingswood seat in the next general election.

More than 130 Labour Party members packed the community hall in Longwell Green to vote for Nicola Bowden-Jones, an NHS mental health specialist and Bristol City councillor representing the ward of Frome Vale.

Nicola, who secured a landslide victory, said: "I feel very honoured to have the overwhelming backing of Labour members in Kingswood. We have a strong and effective team to ensure we make Kingswood Labour again and elect an MP who works for the many and not the few."

The current Kingswood MP is Conservative Chris Skidmore who was first elected in 2010. Mr Skidmore took the seat from Labour's Roger Berry who held it since 1992.

Nicola added: "My priorities will include providing a fair settlement for local schools, defending our NHS from cuts and privatisation and highlighting the plight of children with special educational needs."
