Pre-school wins praise
STAFF at a Hanham pre-school are giving themselves a well-earned pat on the back after receiving a glowing Ofsted report.
Inspectors visited Hanham Toddlers Pre-School, based at the Methodist church in Chapel Road, and judged it to be 'Good' in four out of five categories. In the personal development, behaviour and welfare category, inspectors gave an 'Outstanding' rating.
Inspectors said teaching was "strong throughout" and children's behaviour "excellent". The pre-school was praised for its strong partnerships with parents with staff helping parents to continue their children's reading at home. "Staff understand how children learn and develop. They know how to observe and assess children's progress and how to identify any gaps in their development".
The strong focus on promoting literacy and maths skills means children make good progress. Staff make excellent use of the garden, giving children a variety of opportunities to learn outdoors.
Children demonstrate very high levels of confidence in their social skills and follow routines extremely well. They are also well motivated and eager learners: "They persevere and are willing to have a go at things that challenge them."
The report added: "All children make good progress in their learning and develop skills in preparation for the next stage in learning and eventual move to school."
Manager Lorraine Bunting said: "Myself and my team are delighted with the report and wish to thank all of our parents and carers for the wonderful support they give. Staff work very hard to provide excellent care and education for the children and it's great this has been recognised by Ofsted."
