SKILLS used in sport can also help you get ahead in the rest of your life, children in Hanham have been told.

Rugby player Max Lahiff, loosehead prop for Bristol Bears, visited Hanham Woods Academy to give an inspirational talk.

Mr Lahiff spoke to 150 children from years nine to 11, including giving a pep talk to the year 11 football team prior to their County Cup Final.

A school spokesperson said: “Max talked about what it takes to be successful in professional sport and how this applies to life, stressing the need to work hard and find your obsession to be successful.”

Principal Steve O’Callaghan, who set up the visit, said: “We owe a huge amount of gratitude to Max that he took time out of his busy schedule to come and inspire students.

“The students really enjoyed the experience and the opportunity to speak to Max and ask him questions.

“As Principal, I was extremely proud of the way students conducted themselves and the quality of questions they asked. They were great ambassadors for our academy.”
