Singer Kelsey,19, tops the charts
A SINGER from Hanham is making an impact on the UK country music charts.
Nineteen-year-old Kelsey Bovey lives with her mum, dad and older sister and works in a nursery. She developed her passion for music after learning the piano when she was eight, which led to singing lessons and guitar lessons.
After developing a love for song writing, Kelsey showed an original song to her current co-producer and co-writer Danny McMahon. She then went to Puzzle Maker Studios near Temple Meads Station and recorded three songs for her debut EP It’s My Time, which was released in summer 2019.
Kelsey is passionate about writing songs that young people can relate to, and after the release of her first single Define Me, she reached #29 in the UK Singer/Songwriter iTunes Charts. A year later she went on to release her new single Magnetic which reached #2 in the UK Country iTunes Charts, and her EP Not Scared Anymore reached #1 in the UK Country iTunes Charts after it was released in June.
Speaking about her musical journey, Kelsey said: “I grew up listening to country music and Taylor Swift was my idol. I wanted to be like her one day. I was always singing around the house and down the streets. Professionally, I started when I was 11 years old singing classically, which helped me to understand my own voice which has helped me massively throughout this journey
“One of my earliest memories of singing was when I was the lead in my production in Year 6 when we were Wenlock and Mandeville (the 2012 Olympic Mascots) which I absolutely loved. This gave me a lot of confidence and also gave me the love for musical theatre I have today.
“I also remember performing my first original song ‘Your Wish Will Come True’ in-front of my family for the first time which really stood out to me and made me realise I wanted to be a songwriter after I put all my skills together. The song was about being a fairy and helping others achieve their dreams which is quite sweet really!
“I hope to release more music as soon as possible. I have been writing lots of music during the pandemic and it’s the best feeling to release something you’ve worked so hard on and held onto for so long. I also cannot wait for gigs to open up again and get playing to people, it will be so lovely to see faces and have normal social interaction.
“I really hope sometime I can become a full time musician as this is what I’ve dreamed of since I was a little girl. I completely understand things don’t happen overnight and I am willing to be patient if I know that it will become reality one day.”
